Experts are on red alert after uncovering a ticking time bomb in Antarctica that would reshape the continent and dramatically increase sea levels worldwide. More than 100 volcanoes lie beneath the surface of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, which is 'particularly vulnerable to collapse, yet its position atop an active volcanic rift is seldom considered,' the study noted. Scientists have warned that as climate change causes the ice sheet to melt, this drives increased volcanic activity that speeds up melting at the surface, creating a 'positive feedback loop.' As the ice sheet melts, the amount of mass pushing down on the surface decreases, which creates an uplifting effect in the subsurface.

🤖 Discovery of fat-filled cartilage cells explains why noses are springy
A newly identified cartilage cell generates fat vacuoles and makes the surrounding tissues pliable. This helps keep the ear and nose tips bouncy. The smooth functioning of the body's joints, the flexibility of the ears and nose, and the shaping of bones are all made possible by the skeletal tissue known as cartilage.1 According to popular medical textbooks, cartilage is made up of only one type of specialized cell called a chondrocyte, which is small and secretes large quantities of extracellular matrix, giving cartilage its biomechanical properties.2 But now, new research makes these textbooks outdated. More than a decade ago, while studying fat cells in the mouse ear skin, Maksim Plikus and his colleagues observed a puzzling pattern in dye uptake. "There were some fat cells that stained, which were the true adipocytes," said Plikus, a developmental biologist at the University of California, Irvine. "Then there was another group of fat cells that didn't [stain], no matter which...

👔 Starbucks reverses open public bathroom policy: Junkie influx created unsafe environment
Newly appointed Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol has reportedly reversed a seven-year policy that allowed the general public to use store bathrooms without making a purchase. The policy had resulted in widespread drug use at certain store locations, particularly in lawless, Democrat-controlled cities. The Wall Street Journal obtained a copy of a memo sent to employees outlining the new code of conduct being rolled out across stores in North America. "There is a need to reset expectations for how our spaces should be used and who uses them," Starbucks North America President Sara Trilling said in the memo. The updated policies also include adding signs prohibiting harassment, violence, threatening language, outside alcohol, smoking, and panhandling in its stores.

📰 Ukraine must acknowledge territorial 'reality' - Trump adviser
Acknowledging the situation on the ground is a major step toward bringing the conflict to an end, Michael Waltz has said. It is not possible to "expel every Russian from every inch" of soil claimed by Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula, incoming US National Security Adviser Michael Waltz has admitted. Acknowledging "that reality" has become a major step toward resolving the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, Waltz told ABC News in an interview on Sunday, adding that this idea is now in the process of being accepted by Ukraine's backers. Waltz stated: "Everybody knows that this [conflict] has to end somehow diplomatically. I just don't think it's realistic to say we're going to expel every Russian from every inch of Ukrainian soil. Even Crimea - President-elect Donald Trump has acknowledged that reality, and I think it has been a huge step forward that the entire world is acknowledging that reality." Waltz suggested that accepting the fact that returning to Ukraine's original...

🔥 Gaza truce could happen 'this week' - White House
There has reportedly been a breakthrough at the Israel-Hamas talks in Doha. Talks in Qatar about ending the conflict between Israel and Hamas are close to succeeding, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan has said. Israel declared war on the Palestinian group after the October 7, 2023 incursion from Gaza that claimed over 1,100 lives. More than 46,000 Palestinians have been killed in the enclave since. Sullivan told reporters on Monday. "We are close to a deal, and it can get done this week." He said the proposal in question had been outlined by US President Joe Biden last June and involves "a ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza." A "breakthrough" was achieved shortly after midnight, according to Reuters, while Israel's Channel 12 described the developments in Doha as "dramatic" and claimed that a ceasefire could be announced as early as Tuesday. Israel has accepted the proposal, which is now awaiting final approval by Hamas, multiple outlets in Tel Aviv have claimed. Both...

"We do not engage with countries that try to hide behind America's power while advancing their own agendas." Three Algerian men have been arrested in France following allegations they published posts inciting violence on social media platform TikTok. The arrests come amid strained relations between France and its former colony, in the wake of the arrest of French-Algerian novelist Boualem Sansal, and France's support of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. French authorities on Sunday held three Algerians suspected of inciting violence in TikTok videos, with at least two of them facing terror-related charges. The arrests come amid growing political tensions between Paris and its former North African colony. The Americans are said to be thinking of proposing a partition of Ukraine into two, with a kind of DMZ. They like this kind of thing and have tried it in the past with the Koreas, Vietnam, and so on. It never ends well. For the Russians, it is non-starter. They read history. Former President, now Deputy Head of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev has said. I would like to highlight the so-called German scenario, which has resurfaced on the agenda. It suggests that a fragmented Ukraine would resemble a kind of FRG and GDR, with the role of the FRG, of course, assigned to Bandera's Kiev, while that of the GDR - to the Russian territories that have returned to their homeland. This scenario has emerged for obvious reasons, despite having no chance of success. The explanation is simple: it facilitates reconciling the leadership of the illegitimate Kiev regime with the most extreme neo-Nazis. In the historical sense, the "Germanic scenario" of settlement is only feasible in terms of...

In subsequent books and podcast interviews, the veteran speculator has focused on signs that he sees as warnings, based on his study of historical events such as the fall of Ancient Rome. He told DailyMail.com that there are now seven clear signs that he believes show that Western civilization is facing an end. He said: 'I'm unhappy about Western civilization winding down, because it's by far the best civilization in world history. In fact, it's the only civilization in world history that even matters, quite frankly.'

Tens of thousands took to the streets of Romania's capital Bucharest on Sunday to protest against the Constitutional Court's invalidation of the presidential election. The court annulled the results of the first round in December after independent candidate Calin Georgescu outperformed all other candidates. Videos circulating on social media show demonstrators in Bucharest honking horns and waving Romania's flags, shouting "freedom" and "bring back the second round." Some were seen carrying portraits of Georgescu or Orthodox Christian icons, and others placards with the slogans "Democracy is not optional" and "We want free elections." More than 100,000 people took part in the protest, media outlets stated, citing the event's organizers. Police reportedly estimated the numbers were much lower.

A jackal attack at Bighar village of Haryana's Fatehabad district has left 2 women with severe injures, intensifying fears about the growing number and aggression of these wild animals in the area. The attacked village women, Ritu and Sumitra, were moved to a hospital, while the jackal also injured two animals. Ritu recounted how the attack occurred while she was preparing fodder for her livestock in the morning. The jackal targeted two nearby animals later and then entered a neighboring house, where it injured Sumitra's hands and mouth. Sumitra noted a noticeable increase in jackal sightings in recent years, attributing their growing aggression to the area's expanding animal population. She said: "Earlier, jackals were fewer and less aggressive, but now their numbers have grown, and they've started attacking people."
